Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, has voiced his backing for pro-XRP lawyer John Deaton, who may be considering a run for a political position. This move comes in response to calls from the XRP community urging the legal expert to pursue a specific senatorial seat.
Garlinghouse’s Support for Deaton’s Political Aspirations
The Ripple CEO shared a post from X (formerly Twitter) advocating for Deaton to run for Congress. Garlinghouse is known for focusing on posts related to his company, Ripple, making his backing of the legal expert notable and indicating a possible endorsement. He has also shown support for individuals aiming to combat political corruption.
Notably, the XRP community is urging Deaton to challenge Senator Elizabeth Warren for the Massachusetts Senatorial seat. A prominent member of the XRP community, Crypto Eri, initially spearheaded this effort, citing a Politico report highlighting Warren’s lack of significant opposition.
Deaton has been a vocal critic of Warren, particularly due to her anti-crypto stance, demonstrated by her sponsorship of the ‘Digital Asset Anti-Money Laundering Act’, widely viewed as an unconstitutional attack on the crypto industry.
Warren’s stance on crypto likely explains Garlinghouse’s support for Deaton’s potential challenge. Garlinghouse and Ripple have faced challenges due to regulatory uncertainty, particularly in their dealings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Meanwhile, Deaton hinted that his potential bid against Warren would not solely be based on her anti-crypto stance, suggesting that crypto is not the primary reason for his criticism of the Senator.
Ripple’s CTO’s Cryptic Posts
Attention within the XRP community has been drawn to enigmatic posts made by Ripple’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), David Schwartz. Schwartz posted X symbols containing the Angzar symbol, a Unicode character, raising speculation about potential upcoming developments related to the XRP Ledger. Schwartz is known for providing crucial updates about the network.
It is also possible that Schwartz’s posts were meant in a lighthearted manner, as evidenced by a subsequent comment where he humorously addressed the issue.
